Canada's new casino hotels: recent openings and what's next

Canada has gained five casino hotels since 2020, has two more on the way, and is watching several older resorts rebuild in phases. Below are all three groups, each with the opening date and room count taken from the operator or a named report — linked, so you can check them yourself.

Rebuilt from the Rideau Carleton site for $350 million; Hard Rock calls it its first fully integrated resort in Canada. A 24/7 casino with 1,500-plus slots, Hard Rock LIVE for 2,200 and a Council Oak steakhouse. 19+ throughout.

Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto

The old Casino Woodbine, rebuilt beside the racetrack: a 5,000-person theatre, a pool with sauna and steam room, free parking and a free Pearson shuttle.

Pickering Casino Resort Hotel

Pickering, ON · 275 rooms incl. 33 suites

East of Toronto, the hotel at Great Canadian's $500 million resort: rooms of 388–775 sq. ft. (22 accessible), a 2,500-seat arena and theatre, and a casino that launched with 2,200 slots and 90-plus live tables.

Great Blue Heron Casino & Hotel

Port Perry (Scugog Island), ON · Roughly 100 rooms (sources disagree)

On Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation land; the hotel was announced complete on November 1, 2021. Room totals differ — Wikipedia says 100, travel listings 116, the operator gives none. Its Nest event space takes up to 800.

Dakota Dunes Resort

Whitecap Dakota First Nation, near Saskatoon, SK · 155 rooms

Owned by Whitecap Dakota First Nation and managed by Atlific Hotels, about 20 minutes south of Saskatoon beside Dakota Dunes Casino. Ribbon cut October 8, 2020; 10,000 sq. ft. of meeting space and farm-to-table food.

18 storeys, roughly 230–240 rooms, more than 30 suites, a two-waterslide pool and a large ballroom, added to today's 249-room hotel. Exterior done as of June 2026.

Cascades Casino and Hotel Innisfil

Innisfil, ON (239 Reive Blvd, off Hwy 400)

Replacing Gateway's Georgian Downs casino: 1,000-plus slots, live tables and a seven-storey hotel, about 150,000 sq. ft. in all (BlogTO, September 2026).

River Rock Casino Resort — 20th-anniversary upgrades in 2024 led by Gordon Ramsay Steak; KOI sushi opened in 2026; sold to new owners in June 2026.
