Grey Eagle Resort & Casino: our review

Page revised · data checked

On Calgary's south-west edge, the Tsuut'ina Nation owns and runs Grey Eagle, whose 178-room hotel opened in 2014. Some rooms look west to the Rockies, the 2,500-seat Event Centre books good acts, and Little Chief is one of the stronger casino restaurants in the West. Expect a closed pool while renovations continue into 2027.

Book it for: Concerts in Calgary and a base for day trips to Kananaskis or Banff.
Look elsewhere if: A hotel pool is non-negotiable — it's closed for the renovation.

Tsuut'ina Nation's resort

Grey Eagle belongs to, and is run by, the Tsuut'ina Nation. Gaming began in 2007; the 178-room, six-storey hotel had its grand opening on May 2, 2014. Downtown Calgary is minutes away and Kananaskis Country about half an hour — no other casino hotel in our guide has mountains that close.

Mountain side or city side

Ask for a west-facing room: on clear days, the resort says, those look out to the Rockies, while the others face the city. Room types are Standard King, Premier King and Standard Two Queen (the one the hotel suggests for families), plus the King Suite and the Presidential Suite. The hotel calls them newly renovated.

Gaming

32 tables and 975-plus slots share 84,000 sq. ft. Slots are open 24 hours; tables, 10 a.m. to 3 a.m. Blackjack, baccarat and other games have high-limit rooms. You must be 18. Renovation of the casino continues in phases through 2026–2027, the casino says. Points go on Winner's Edge, the card used across Alberta.

Event Centre

The 2,500-seat Event Centre admits all ages. It added an L-Acoustics sound system in 2024 and took Venue/Presenter of the Year at that year's YYC Music Awards. The Concert Night Getaway — two tickets plus an overnight stay — costs $329–$369.

Where to eat

Little Chief pairs modern cooking with Indigenous tradition and has been written up by the Calgary Herald and Avenue Magazine. The Buffet (18+) runs nightly features through December 31, 2026, then closes for renovation in January 2027. Also on site: Blaze Bar & Grill, the Eagle Bar on the gaming floor, the Stage Bar with free weekend shows, and the Eagle Street Eats food truck — Indian tacos, chili and bannock, Saskatoon berry dumplings.

Pool closed, hot tub open

While the casino is renovated the pool stays shut, so the hotel gives guests free access to two City of Calgary pools, Killarney and Glenmore. The sauna, the outdoor hot tub and the 24-hour fitness centre are open as usual.

Beyond the casino

Grey Eagle Cultural Tours offer visits on Tsuut'ina Nation, including the Tsuut'ina Museum and a Buffalo Paddock Tour. From the resort, Calgary International Airport takes 30–45 minutes and Banff about an hour. Parking is free; pets stay on a designated pet floor.

Our advice

For Calgary concerts or a Rockies road trip, this is the pick. Until the renovation wraps up, think hot tub, not pool.
