Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto: our review

Page revised · data checked

Woodbine's old casino became a full resort in 2023: 400 rooms, a theatre with capacity for 5,000, a pool with a sauna and steam room, free self-parking and a free shuttle from Pearson. The operator says no casino in Canada offers more slot machines.

Book it for: Fly-in visitors, arena concerts and slot players who want the most machines in one place.
Look elsewhere if: A big room or a scenic view matters — standard rooms are 388 sq. ft. and look over the track or the city.

A 2023 rebuild by the racetrack

Torontonians knew it as Casino Woodbine. In 2023 it reopened in stages as Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto — casino phase one on June 20, then The Hotel at Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto on August 1. The address is in Etobicoke, beside Woodbine Racetrack and a few minutes' drive from Pearson, and the pitch is size: the operator claims the largest selection of slot machines in Canada.

Rooms: new, practical, 388 sq. ft.

All 400 rooms and suites date from the opening. Standard rooms come in four versions of 388 sq. ft. each: Premium King and Premium Two Queen, or Racetrack King and Racetrack Two Queen, which face the track — and according to Destination Toronto, nearly half the hotel looks that way. In-room basics include NEST bath products, bathrobes, blackout curtains, a coffee maker and a mini fridge. Accessible rooms have grab bars and 60-inch roll-in showers. Need space? Book a Corner Suite (king bed plus queen sofa bed) or a 2-Bedroom Suite that sleeps six; both include a microwave and a fridge.

Reservations must be made by someone 19 or older. Kids can stay but can't enter 19+ areas. Arrive from 4 p.m.; leave by 11 a.m.

Slots, tables and the high-limit room

At the 2023 opening, Global News reported 145 table games and 4,800 slots. The high-limit area alone carries over 210 slots, more than 25 live tables and 15 multi-game terminals for electronic poker and blackjack. Hotel and casino never close. Great Canadian Rewards membership is free from age 19.

Concerts, and free racing next door

The Theatre seats up to 5,000 for concerts or 1,500-plus for a gala; tickets go through Ticketmaster only. Next door, Woodbine usually charges nothing for admission or parking on race days — the fall meet ran through November 29, 2026.

Restaurants

For a proper dinner, Copperhorn steakhouse sits right on the gaming floor. Casual — the name says it — is a gastropub pouring plenty of local craft beer. Asian cooking comes from Chopsticks Noodlehouse and Lobster Legend Noodle Bar (Teochew plus Western dishes), gourmet pizza from Pizzaiolo, and quick bites from the Food Hall's Tim Hortons, Noodlebox and Mary Brown's Express. Northern Lights Bar is 19+; the Lobby Bar Grab & Go serves all ages.

Pool and fitness

Listed facilities: pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room and gym. On busy days, expect the front desk to ask you to book a pool time.

Shuttle, parking, pets

Flying in? The free Pearson shuttle operates daily in two blocks, 6 a.m. to noon and 3 to 9 p.m.; find it at post F3 on Terminal 1 arrivals or near gates B and G at Terminal 3. Self-parking in the enclosed 3,800-space garage is free; valet costs about $20 Mondays to Thursdays and $30 Fridays to Sundays. Pets: two cats or dogs under 50 lb., $49 a night plus a one-off $49 for cleaning.

Before you drive over: the lockout

On July 23, 2026, about 100 security officers represented by Unifor Local 1090 were locked out, and pickets went up at the entrances. Great Canadian's operating notice of October 2, 2026 says the casino and hotel remain open around the clock, restaurant hours are unchanged, and vehicles cross the picket line at least every three minutes. Check for updates before you set off.

Our advice

Choose it for a fly-in weekend, a big concert or a marathon slot session near Toronto. Rooms are modern but compact, and a Corner Suite solves that.
