British Columbia: one airport resort, one local casino hotel

BCLC operates B.C.'s casinos; the IGCO (Independent Gambling Control Office) regulates them. Age: 19. Expect a photo-ID check at every door — B.C. has run one since June 2023, matching cards against its barred list. The two Lower Mainland properties we score sit at opposite poles — an airport-side resort with a celebrity steakhouse, and a local casino with a small hotel.

The two B.C. hotels we score

River Rock

Richmond, by YVR (BC) · No. 4 · 4.29/5 (A−)

The car-free answer. River Rock shares a corner with Bridgeport station, so the Canada Line reaches the airport in roughly seven minutes and the downtown core in roughly eighteen. Behind the doors: 396 keys (some enormous suites), Ramsay's first Canadian steakhouse, a slide in the pool and boats moored on the Fraser.

Cascades Langley

Langley City, Fraser Valley (BC) · No. 12 · 3.15/5 (C)

A 77-key Coast hotel bolted onto Gateway's casino in Langley City. Worth it for a steak at ATLAS, a floor that runs all night and free parking; not for a swim or a show, since there is neither.
