Grey Eagle Resort & Casino: the Maple verdict

3.84 / 5B

No. 9 of 12 in our 2026 ranking
Ask for the west side and wake up to the Rockies

Tsuut'ina Nation's resort sits where Calgary's south-west suburbs run out. Its 178 keys arrived in 2014, the west-facing ones with the Rockies in the window; the 2,500-seat Event Centre books acts worth travelling for; and Little Chief would hold its own outside a casino. The pool, though, stays shut until the 2026–2027 rebuild is done.

Book it fora Calgary show, or a base camp for Kananaskis and Banff day trips.
Look elsewhere ifa hotel pool is essential — it is closed while the casino is rebuilt.

Owned on Tsuut'ina land

The Tsuut'ina Nation is both owner and operator. Gaming came first, in 2007; the six-storey hotel of 178 keys had its grand opening on 2 May 2014. Downtown Calgary is minutes away, Kananaskis Country about thirty — no other casino hotel we cover sits this close to mountains.

Keys

Ask for the west side: on clear days, the resort says, those windows reach the Rockies; the rest look at the city. Families are steered to the Standard Two Queen; couples choose between Standard King and Premier King; and two suites (King, Presidential) top the list. The hotel says every type has been renovated recently.

The floor

On 84,000 sq. ft. you get 32 live tables (10:00–03:00) and upward of 975 machines that never stop; blackjack and baccarat players have high-limit rooms. Minimum age: 18. Phased renovation work, the casino says, continues across 2026 and 2027. Your points collect on Winner's Edge, the card shared by Alberta casinos.

Stage

2,500 seats, open to every age. 2024 was a big year — L-Acoustics speakers went in, and the YYC Music Awards voted it Venue/Presenter of the Year. Their Concert Night Getaway (C$329–C$369) packages two tickets with an overnight stay.

Kitchens

Little Chief joins modern technique to Indigenous tradition; Avenue Magazine and the Calgary Herald have both reviewed it. The Buffet (18+) serves its nightly features to the end of 2026 and closes in January 2027 for a rebuild. Elsewhere: Eagle Bar beside the machines, Blaze Bar & Grill, free weekend sets at the Stage Bar, and the Eagle Street Eats truck, selling Indian tacos, Saskatoon berry dumplings, bannock and chili.

Water and wellness

With the pool closed for the works, the hotel sends swimmers to Glenmore or Killarney — City of Calgary pools — at no cost to guests. Still open: outdoor hot tub, sauna, 24-hour gym.

Getting in

Calgary's airport: 30–45 minutes by road. Banff: an hour, give or take. No parking charge. Pets: a dedicated floor. For context, book Grey Eagle Cultural Tours: the museum of the Tsuut'ina people and a tour of the buffalo paddock are both on the menu.

Desk verdict

For Calgary concerts and Rockies drives, this is the one. While the builders are in, the outdoor hot tub is your water.
