From Woodbine to resort

Two openings in 2023 — gaming first (20 June), then, six weeks later on 1 August, the hotel wing (official name: The Hotel). Address: Etobicoke, beside Woodbine Racetrack, minutes from Pearson. Pitch: scale — no Canadian casino offers more machines, the operator claims.

Keys

400 keys, all from opening day. Standards measure 388 sq. ft. in four versions — Premium King, Premium Two Queen, and the same pair labelled Racetrack because they face the track (nearly half the building, per Destination Toronto). Kit: robes, NEST toiletries, blackout curtains, mini fridge, coffee maker. Accessible keys: grab bars, 60-inch roll-in showers. Need room? The Corner Suite pairs a king with a sofa bed (queen); the 2-Bedroom Suite sleeps six; each has a fridge and microwave. The person reserving must be 19; kids can share but not enter 19+ zones. Keys 16:00, out 11:00.

The floor

Global News, at the 2023 launch: 4,800 machines, 145 table games. In the high-limit room alone: over 210 machines, over 25 live tables, and 15 terminals that deal electronic poker and blackjack. Nothing here ever closes, and joining Great Canadian Rewards is free once you are 19.

Stage, and the track

The Theatre: concert capacity 5,000, gala seating over 1,500; Ticketmaster is the sole ticket seller. Woodbine next door usually lets race-day visitors in and parks them for free; its fall meet was set to run to 29 November 2026.

Kitchens

On the floor: Copperhorn, the steakhouse. Pints: Casual, a gastropub with plenty of local craft taps. Noodles: Chopsticks Noodlehouse, or Lobster Legend Noodle Bar with its Teochew-meets-Western menu. Pizza: Pizzaiolo. Food Hall: Noodlebox, Tim Hortons, Mary Brown's Express. Bars: Northern Lights (19+); the Lobby Bar Grab & Go serves everyone.

Water and wellness

Listed: a gym, steam room, sauna, hot tub and pool. Busy weekends can mean a reserved swim slot, allocated at the front desk.

Getting in

Pearson shuttle, free, daily, 06:00–noon and 15:00–21:00: at T1 wait by post F3 on the arrivals level; at T3 the stop is near gates B and G. Garage: 3,800 covered bays, free to self-park. Valet: about C$20 Monday–Thursday, about C$30 Friday–Sunday. Pets: two cats or dogs under 50 lb., C$49 a night plus C$49 once for cleaning.

Picket line

Since 23 July 2026 around 100 Unifor Local 1090 security guards have been locked out by Great Canadian, and pickets stand at the entrances. Great Canadian's notice dated 2 October 2026 says nothing has closed — gaming and rooms around the clock, kitchens on normal hours — and that vehicles are waved through the pickets at least once every three minutes. Check for news before setting off.

Desk verdict

Around Toronto, our choice for a fly-in night, a concert or a marathon on the machines. Keys are smart but small; the Corner Suite fixes that.
