Spa-and-casino weekends don't get more complete in Canada: a five-star Hilton joined to Loto-Québec's Casino du Lac-Leamy, heated indoor and outdoor pools open in every season, a 17-room Amerispa, an 1,100-seat theatre and 1,400-plus slots — all ten minutes by car from downtown Ottawa.

Book it for: Spa-first weekends with an evening at the tables, or a comfortable base for Ottawa sightseeing.
Look elsewhere if: You're travelling with under-18s who want to see the casino, the theatre or the bars — all are 18+ only.

Hotel, casino and theatre in one

The pieces arrived in two waves: the Casino du Lac-Leamy in 1996, then in 2001 the Hilton, the theatre and a conference centre. Since 2001 the hotel has held five stars from Québec's CITQ, and since 2002 a CAA/AAA Four Diamond rating. Hilton runs the rooms; Loto-Québec runs the gaming.

Rooms and suites

Sources split on the total. Tourisme Outaouais lists 349 rooms; Bonjour Québec gives 312 rooms plus 37 suites. In Classic rooms you get two queens; in Deluxe rooms, a king and a dressing table at the entrance. Executive guests stay on the top three floors, served by their own elevator. Suites are Junior, Murphy or One-bedroom. Standard in every room: a 47-inch TV, a safe, a mini fridge, Crabtree & Evelyn toiletries, robes and slippers. Views take in Lac Leamy and Lac de la Carrière, the hotel says.

Arrive at 4 p.m., leave by 11 a.m. Room service runs 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., seven days a week.

Year-round pools and Amerispa

This is why Lac-Leamy scores a 10 from us for wellness. Indoors and out, the pools and hot tubs are heated and open in every season. Amerispa has 17 treatment rooms; a two-hour Serenity package is $252 Monday–Thursday and $308 Friday–Sunday, and spa access covers the pools, whirlpools, sauna and steam bath. The fitness centre is free and open 24 hours.

The casino

You'll find 48 tables, more than 1,400 slots, electronic terminals, a poker lounge and a Mise-o-jeu sports betting area. From Monday to Thursday it opens 9 a.m. to 5 a.m.; from Friday to Sunday it doesn't close. Québec's minimum age is 18, and guests who look under 25 can be asked for government photo ID.

Shows and bars after dark

Théâtre du Casino seats 1,100 theatre-style or 770 at cabaret tables and is 18+ except for special events. For live bands and DJs, Bar 7 gets going at 7 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, with Latin nights on Thursdays. Bacchus is for scotch by the fire, with a cigar room. Aléa, the nightclub, runs 11 p.m.–3 a.m. and enforces a dress code.

Dining

Arôme overlooks Lac de la Carrière and is the signature room — seafood and grill, a three-course Experience menu and Sunday brunch. Banco Bistro is the wallet-friendly option (rotisserie, pizza, steak), and L'Instant does Montréal smoked meat, pasta and a smoked-meat poutine. The poolside TGV snack bar is closed until next summer.

Ottawa next door

Downtown Ottawa is roughly a ten-minute drive: ByWard Market 4.1 km, Parliament 6.4 km, the Rideau Canal skateway 7.3 km. Allow about 25 minutes to the airport. STO's Rapibus serves Lac-Leamy station. Outdoor parking costs nothing; valet is suspended until further notice. EV chargers are available, and pets up to 34 kg can stay for a $50 fee.

Our advice

Come for the calm and the easy Ottawa access. Take your spa package on a weekday to avoid the weekend premium, and save the casino for a Friday night, when it doesn't close.
