Club Regent is a Canad Inns hotel attached to one of Winnipeg's two casinos: 146 smoke-free rooms, about 1,200 slots plus bingo next door, and a 1,300-seat event centre. Handy, not glamorous.

Book it for: A simple Winnipeg overnight next to slots, bingo and the event centre.
Look elsewhere if: You're after resort extras — rooms are modest and no pool is listed.

What you're booking

Officially it's the Canad Inns Destination Centre Club Regent Casino Hotel, next to Club Regent Casino — one of the two Casinos of Winnipeg run by Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries. Six storeys, 146 smoke-free rooms, which an AAA inspector called "modest"; we'd agree. Choose Two Queen, One Queen, One King or the One-Bedroom King Suite.

Gaming and the event centre

Roughly 1,200 slots (progressives and electronic table games included), bingo, and live tables daily from 5:30 p.m. to 3 a.m. Manitoba's minimum age is 18. The 1,300-seat Club Regent Event Centre, open since 2014, books concerts and comedy. In the hotel, Playmaker's Gaming Lounge has VLTs from 9 a.m. to midnight.

Food

Aaltos runs themed dinner buffets Thursday to Sunday, 5–8 p.m. — surf and turf, chicken and ribs, roast beef, turkey — plus Sunday brunch, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Toukies is the lounge in the casino. There's also a McDonald's and an ice-cream shop.

Details

Park free in the casino parkade. The airport is about 25 minutes (15 km) away. AAA gives check-in as 4 p.m. and checkout as 11 a.m., and says pets aren't allowed. The Stay & Play rate adds $15 in free play per Club Card member — ask for it.

Our advice

Book it for a show at the event centre or a night of gaming, not as a resort break — which is why it misses our top ten.
